The Next Step Edition

6. D.J. Shadow and Cut Chemist, I saw this set last night and holy crap did it kick my ass. The entire show was played with 45’s only. They each had a lunch box filled with records and contrary to the last time I saw Shadow, he did not disappoint.

5. Iron and Wine, This is an amazing live version of one of the best tracks on his newest album. The following is a direct quote from a YouTube fan – “if musical ability were facial hair, that dude would have a huge-ass beard. oh wait, he does. play it, sam….” I covet his beard.

4. Mountain Goats, I’ve been listening to these guys a lot lately. This is a little more stripped down sound wise for them and I like the black and white aspect to the video.

3. Mars Volta, I didn’t love these guys right away when I first heard them. I needed time for them to grow on me. Drew Mac would accuse me jumping on the band wagon here. Let’s see if he comments.

2. Phosphorescent, This guy gets compared to Iron and Wine all the time, probably due to his style and awesome beard. He is from Athens and seems to have gone to the David Lynch school of video direction.

1.Tindersticks, This is an old one by them. They are releasing their first album in about six years this year. So hopefully that means a tour soon. One of the happiest moments of my concert going life was hearing “She’s Gone” as their opening track and then they played the song again because they didn’t feel the first version was good enough. Attention to detail my friends.
