Can I Compare Thee Edition
6. The Billionaires, It’s a group sing-a-long version of Ben Folds ripping off the 80’s. How many 80’s movie references can you pick out? These guys play well with each other and I think they all have solo projects.
5. Rivers Cuomo, This is almost a mini documentary. It’s a cute story and Tony Hawk is in it. Watching him practice in the rain was heart warming. The “fall and hit the ground” part is almost AFV worthy.
4. WHY?, Ira from Yo La Tengo mentioned these guys in an interview and they are friends on MySpace. If you’ve been following the Pix you know I’m a sucker for good pop music with an animated video.
3. The Raveonettes, This duo gets better with every album. I’ve been listening to a lot of stuff lately that has that Jesus and Mary Chain feel to it. Melancholy I guess.
2. Phosphorescent, Not everything can be 80’s movies and cartoons. This is one of the saddest, prettiest songs and videos I’ve seen. I’m not a huge fan of horses, but I am a fan of quiet dignity.
1. The Gutter Twins, These guys have been touring for a while now, but this is their first video. It kind of looks like David Lynch filmed the indoor stuff and Michael Mann handled the outdoor shots. Mark Lanegan and Greg Dulli have the gravelliest voices ever.
