Feeling the Burn and Noticing the Difference Edition

6. Yo La Tengo, I just saw these guys earlier this week for the first time in about ten years. They performed a mostly acoustic set of their “greatest hits”. So in honour of that here’s a song that was acoustic on the album, but played differently live.

5. M83, I guess I’m still stuck on my little 80’s movie trip from last week’s Pix. I’m really loving the “John Hughes teen angst” lately; maybe I miss my youth and cute, introverted girls a little.

4. The Acorn, These guys are CBC 3 darlings and the video was created at Durham College. I’m finding a lot of bands lately that are obviously influenced by the Talking Heads. Good stuff, great video.

3. Fleet Foxes, I saw these guys open for Blitzen Trapper last week and they had amazing energy. The quality of this video isn’t stellar, but it does them some justice. The band seemed genuinely surprised at how much the crowd liked them. That’s always a nice treat.

2. Black Angels, Another recent live discovery of mine. I should be slightly embarrassed with how much dark, stoner rock I like, but I’m not. They get their name from an awesome Velvet Underground song and this is a fan video made from the movie “Death Sentence”. There’s something oddly cool about watching Mr. Footloose go all “Travis Bickle”.

1. The Helio Sequence, I’ve liked these guys for a while now, but recently friends from different circles have been asking me about them and forwarding links. So at the risk of pandering to my audience, I’m throwing the song I’ve listened to the most this week up for grabs. Thanks to the Squid’s parental unit for all the inspiration this week. Forever Again!

This site has a lot of cool tunes. Will have to spend some time looking over the old posts.
