Hard Times, Missing the Maritimes Edition

6. British Sea Power, These guys have been around for a while and I heard rumours of stage shows with plastic flamingos and 20 minute long jams, so I avoided them for quite some time. Sometimes the trick is to hear them on someone else’s stereo, so you can ask, “Dude, who is this?”

5. Arcade Fire, Every time I put their newest album on, I have a new favourite song off it. I found it really interesting, considering how big they can sound, that they could sound so cool in a confined space. Apparently there is an entire video coming out of them playing various rooms in a hotel in Paris.

4. Iron and Wine, I apologize that this video is a little out of sync, but it’s the best version I could find. Sam Beam is a formidable musician with an amazing beard. If I could play guitar and sing like that, I would grow as much facial hair as I could.

3. Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, This is an amazing “work in progress”. If I was ridiculously wealthy, I would call her every day when I woke up and have her sing for me…

2. Keane, This is the only time this band will ever be on the Pix. When I was fourteen, I really liked Depeche Mode, wore black and had that flip of hair over one eye. You see kids, emo is really old and not very cool and until you get your own car, you won’t understand. (Thanks to Steve for bringing back painful memories.)

1.Okkervil River, I found this about a month ago, but I thought it was too sad sounding for the Pix…especially for a number one, where I thought it belonged. However, this clip got e mailed to me this week and walking in cold rain with this on the headphones made me really miss having a view of the ocean.

Last chance for Holiday Pix ideas, grinches!
