Surprising Turn of Events Edition

6. Fagottron – “Alice”, Not a giant fan of how this guy refers to himself, but hey…I’ve got a sense of humour too. According to the artist’s information; 90% of this track was created using music and sound effects from the Disney movie. Here’s hoping he doesn’t get sued.

5. Young Galaxy – “Come and See”, I’ve just recently expanded my music collection thanks to Barnudio (!) and a lot of it is just new to me. I’ve heard this track a few times this year, but have never gone looking for it. The influx of new music has resulted in my confusion over what I’ve heard and just heard of. This is a great pop song with an ok video.

4. Godspeed You! Black Emperor – “Rockets Fall on Rocket Falls”, It has been far too long since I have heard new tunes by theses guys. So, I’ll settle for this amazing live version, the quality is pretty good for a fan recording. If you are a fan of documentaries, you may hear some of their older stuff in a couple of newer releases.

3. Cat Power – “Metal Heart”, I could write essays about Chan Marshall’s voice, it blows me away. If I still made mixed tapes for girls I liked, a Cat Power cover or two would probably make an appearance. This is good music for wooing, not that I do that sort of thing anymore.

2. Stars – “Bitches in Tokyo”, I still really like this band, but their videos are turning in to weird art projects. I saw them live a couple of months ago and they really played to the audience. They took the time to make sure everyone was having fun. Gotta respect that and they continue to create great pop music.

1.Band of Horses – “The General Specific”, I could make an entire Six Pix just comprised of this band’s music. I love them that much. I saw Mogwai at the Phoenix this week and I was going over the list of good bands I had seen there. These guys were at the top of said list.

Phantom Call Edition

6. Art Brut, These guys evoke memories of backyard bbq sing-a-longs. It’s good to see they weren’t a one hit wonder and that they still have a sense of humour about their success.

5. Frightened Rabbit, These guys join Mogwai, Belle and Sebastian and Teenage Fanclub on the list of Scottish bands I would brave a music festival for. Typically I hate crowds and large line ups for beer. There’s a disturbing trend of kids in videos on the Pix lately, thanks babysitters club.

Listen to it here, the video got taken off Youtube

4. Supergrass, This is just really good bar music. You can hum to it, tap your foot or just enjoy it in the background. I really like the effects in the video too.

3. Evangelicals, I just heard of this band this week. They are from Oklahoma and are (obviously) obsessed with horror movies. This track reminds me of Yes and Thunderclap Newman for some reason.

2. Yeasayer, These guys just played the El Mo with MGMT (another Pix fave) and they rocked. They talk a lot about music being the new “Homeland Security”, at least I think they did, the beer was flowing like beer that night.

1.Band of Horses, It’s no secret that the Six Pix and Cuzoogle love this band, but they sound less “produced” live and I love live versions of my favourite songs.

Double Digits Edition

6. Bruce Springsteen and Arcade Fire, I have already emailed this clip around, but it’s too cool not to be included in the Pix. Pretty good audio quality, but horrible camera work and so many nerdgasms.

5. Cuthbert and the Nightwalkers, This band came as a recommendation from a friend of a friend who checked out the Pix recently. And everyone knows I’m an attention whore who appreciates cool tunes. They are from Australia and their new album comes out soon…sing along.

4. Blitzen Trapper, Another recent discovery, they played here a while ago, but I missed them. It’s really fun music, but what a jumbled video. On their MySpace, they list Neil Young and the Dukes of Hazard as influences.

3. Vincent Vincent and the Villains, Someone described these guys to me as “lounge punk”, so I had to check them out. Love the video, but their other tunes are a lot better…

2. New Young Pony Club, I guess new wave never went away…I hear Blondie, Duran Duran and the Talking Heads in this track. Also, the video reminds me of my brother, sister and I amusing (and hurting) each other with household items when the parents weren’t around.

1.Band of Horses, This is one of my favourite bands I’ve heard in the last two years. This is their new video off their new album. Beware people in hoodies at night…and pillow fights.
