Pondering Existence Edition

6. The Tindersticks, Their new album is available and it is awesome. This is a much stripped down version of one of the best tracks on the album. The album has a much larger cast than usual and was recorded in France, which means each disc reeks of cigarettes and red wine. Allons-y!

5. The Aluminum Group, These guys sound like a happy version of the Velvet Underground. They hail from Chicago and every album title of theirs requires the word “happyness”. Personally, I don’t care for pigeons, unless they are the “GoodFeathers”.

4. Camphor, This outfit is centered on Max Avery Lichtenstein. He is most well known for soundtrack music to films like “Jesus’ Son” and “The King”. I have a soft spot for the mariachi sound and this video portrays Playmobil people faring far better than they did when I played with them.

3. Point Juncture, WA, I have been guilty of loving the vibes lately. This track quickly solidifies itself as great left of centre pop. I’ve been hearing a lot of good horn sounds lately.

2. Cloud Cult, I saw these guys this week at the El Mo and they rocked. They had live painting going on behind the band, painting along to the music. Normally this wouldn’t impress me, but it wasn’t a gimmick, it worked. This is off their new album, I love the harmonies.

1. The National, This is a little older, but it’s been getting regular play on my iPod. It strikes as a difficult song to play live, but the boys do a good job here. According to their MySpace, they are big fans of F. Scott Fitzgerald and Leonard Cohen, which is cool. They are opening with Modest Mouse for REM in June.
