6. Marco Solo, I’ve been hearing good things about this guy for a while and I got an invitation to go see him tonight. I’m expecting it to be quite good, if the rest of his music sounds like this.
5. Love, For those of you who don’t know, this is an amazing band from the sixties. They were on the “High Fidelity” soundtrack and have been covered by the likes of Calexico. This is an amazing live version of my favourite tune by them.
4. Mates of State, These guys usually play free shows for Earth Day, which is mighty nice of them. This is their newest single; enjoy the explosive video with the anti climactic finale.
3. The Black Keys, This is one of those bands that I feel gets better with each album. I have yet to see them live, but I can’t wait. Letterman seems to really like them.
2. Of Montreal, This might be the band that has made the most appearances on the Pix; I’d have to double check. The drew mac dances in his mirror to this song when he thinks no one is watching.
1. Grizzly Bear, These guys are the darlings of the music geek circles I gravitate in right now. It’s just perfect pop music. They’re touring this summer, you should check ‘em out.

6. Ungdomskulen, This Norwegian weirdness just set off my spell checker. Their name means “junior high”. I’m not an epileptic, but this video made me almost swallow my tongue.
5. Health, These guys are playing a dance club in the entertainment district of Toronto, this Friday. Some promoter really dropped the ball here. I really dig this band. Sorry about how the track cuts out, but I think this song went on for 3 days.
4. Holy F***, These boys’ parents must be really proud of the band name. This track takes about 10 seconds to load up, please be patient, it’s totally worth it. Where we’re going, we don’t need vocals…
3. Blonde Redhead, These guys remind me of vintage Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. They make great “soundtrack” music. This video is very trippy; I swear I’m not pulling a Farah Fawcett.
2. Hylozoists, This is a bit of a plug, but a worthy one. I used to hang out with Paul Aucoin (the lead genius in this collective) back in the day in Halifax. They were just featured on CBC radio and they played a brilliant live set. They don’t tour enough in my opinion.
1. Of Montreal with a contest winner, This band and this track have been on the Pix before, but not like this. This is basically ultimate karaoke; apparently the singer won a contest to sing with Of Montreal backing him up. He does ok for a novice, but the crowd and the band seem to really get into it.

6. Mobius, I put these guys on a road trip mix once and they became the hit of the trip. They are ridiculously melodic and call their sound “technicolor malaise”. Perfect for me.
5. of Montreal, Probably one of the weirdest band names I’ve heard in a while considering they are from Athens, Ga. The video feels pornographic, like a dirty old man voyeur. Apparently one of their songs is the theme to an Outback Steakhouse commercial. I like steak.
4. Modest Mouse, This band has come a long way from “Float On” and The O.C. soundtracks. They put on an amazing live show, I stayed far later than I should have when they played Olympic Island in Toronto. I should have been in bed.
3. Los Campesinos, People recommend music to me all the time because that’s my main topic of conversation. Sometimes I don’t remember what people tell me because my glass is empty. Man, I’m glad I remembered this one.
2. My Morning Jacket, I love this band. Everything I hear is pretty damn good, but I don’t own a single album, nor do I think about them when in music stores. This is a mental hurdle I intend to overcome. Even Conan wants to buy their album, maybe he’ll pick me up a copy.
1.Do Say Make Think, This is live! In a field! I should really hang out in fields more often; Linus Van Pelt may have been on to something. Good Grief, this is amazing and in no way Peanuts affiliated (I just have a weird sense of humour).
